Shaft Sulfinuz treated to
.. improve frictional wear and
.increase resistance to scuffing
 |

The
process called sulfinuzing was developed many years ago to increase
the resistance to scuffing and frictional wear, together with increasing
fatigue resistance and fretting of many ferrous metal components.
Sulfinuz is a low temperature salt bath treatment generally operated
in the region of 570oC to 600oC, depending on material used. Treatment
times at these temperatures vary from five minutes to three hours,
components may be air cooled or quenched into hot water, depending
on material and geometry of the component, and also the distortion
factor.
Basically
the treatment is a salt bath nitriding process, which over 50 years
has proven to increase the life and performance of many components,
such as extrusion dies, pistons, valves and crank shafts.
